Steroid usage has received a lot of attention over the last few years with Jose Conseco's book accusing half of the players in Major League Baseball of using them, and the subsequent investigations, which did expose a great deal of steroid usage. There is almost an endless list of side effects from steroid usage, and they can't all be addressed. However, here are a few you should be aware of.
1. Steroids cause acne. It causes severe and noticeable acne on your face, back, and neck. It is caused by the extreme increase in hormones flowing through your system. The acne won't go away with over-the-counter acne medicines or treatments.
2. Steroids cause water retention: The fluid will collect in your face and neck making you look puffy or swollen most of the time. Although the degree of swelling various, almost all steroid users experience the swelling.
3. Steroids will make you grow breasts. At first it will appear as if the skin under and around your nipples got thicker, but slowly they will form into breasts. This particularly side effect won't go away if you stop taking steroids. This is a life-long condition unless you pursue a surgical solution. This condition is called Gynocomastia.
Although known side effects include an increased level of aggression. Steroid users get angry very easily. They may become violent or self-destructive. Steroids can make your testicles shrink. Steroids can also cause you to get injured because you will be doing things your body isn't really meant to do. If you are caught using steroids you can be kicked out of sports. There are also the ripple side effects, the ones caused by hiding an addiction. In order to hide your steroid use, you will have to lie to friends, family, and teammates. Finally, steroids can cause seemingly young and healthy people to die of a heart attack.
